The benefits of Instant-On or automatic update are great, and if using that lets me trade my games with my friends, sell them back to Xbox and otherwise have a way of transferring my licenses, that's great. GTA V is still worth nearly 75% of it's original value in the UK high-street (read: chain) stores, despite being three years old. Used games retain more value than 10% one day after launch, and even after a year or two (even with yearly releases like Madden or NHL). While they might be doing the right thing, 10% is not enough. If it truly is a license, then the same EULA cannot apply to a physical copy that does a digital version, because a permissible loophole exists that allows physical versions to retain value that digital versions don't. However, what's wrong is that they've exploited, and allowed other companies to exploit the difference between physical and digital goods (GameStop, GAME, EBGames.) to play on that market. Game sharing, trading and sell-back would have been facilitated much more easily if consumers knew about how much better it would be to have your Xbox always on, anyway. Unfortunately, consumer backlash killed that, even though I'd wager most people put their Xbox One into Instant-On mode, having updates applied overnight or while your not using it. Xbox and Microsoft tried to change that, but to do so required consoles to be on all the time to ensure license transferral and expiry.
